When Campus ClosesAntioch is committed to keeping you informed when the campus is not open due to inclement weather or an emergency. For information about a campus closure, please check Antioch's emergency message line at 206-268-4555, the Public Schools Emergency Communication website at www.schoolreport.org or the Student and Employees Official Announcement folders on FirstClass. Below are the notification procedures for when the campus closes. Closing due to Inclement WeatherSevere weather conditions or emergency situations in Seattle occasionally influence whether the university opens or closes. Weather within this area may vary dramatically and change quickly. Employee and student safety is paramount, and individuals should not take unnecessary risks to get to campus. Often in the case of inclement weather, meteorologists can predict the possibility of snow prior to its arrival. In this case faculty and staff are encouraged to take work home with them to prevent their attempting to come to campus when it is clearly unsafe to do so. In the event of inclement weather the vice president for academic affairs and/or the vice president for administration and finance will determine whether the university will close*. Decisions on morning class cancellations will be made by 6:30 a.m. Decisions on afternoon and evening classes will be made by 10 a.m. The university official who closes the campus will post the information on the campus emergency line and the Student and Employees Official Announcement folders and will call the director of marketing and public affairs,** who will notify the media. If the campus is closed, employees are not expected to come to work. If Antioch is open and an individual staff or faculty member cannot get to work, that person is responsible for notifying his or her supervisor and, as appropriate, students. Weekday ClosuresOn weekday mornings, if the Seattle Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather, Antioch will be closed and morning classes cancelled. Notice of Antioch's closure will be posted by 6:30 a.m. on Antioch's emergency message line at (206) 268-4555, as well as in the Student and Employees Official Announcement folders on FirstClass. If the campus is closed, employees are not expected to come to work. However, employees are responsible for checking on the 10 a.m. closure update. By 10 a.m. Antioch officials will announce whether the campus will be closed for the afternoon and evening and whether classes beginning between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. will be canceled. If the campus is to open, employees are expected at work by noon unless it is dangerous for them to travel. In that case, the individual faculty or staff member must notify his or her supervisor and, as appropriate, students. Notice of Antioch's closure will be sent to the media and posted by 10 a.m. on Antioch's emergency message line at (206) 268-4555, as well as in the Student and Employees Official Announcement folders in FirstClass. If the campus is closed, employees are not expected to come to work. Weekend and Holiday ClosuresThe decision to remain open or closed will be made by 6:30 a.m.; however, individual academic programs may make special arrangements with their students. Notice of Antioch's status will be sent to the media and posted by 6:30 a.m. on Antioch's emergency message line at (206) 268-4555, as well as in the Student and Employees Official Announcement folders on FirstClass. If the campus is closed, employees are not expected to come to work.
**In the absence of the director of marketing and public affairs, the vice president for institutional advancement will notify the media. Closing in an Emergency Other than Inclement WeatherIf an emergency at Antioch or in the neighborhood necessitates closing the campus, the vice president for academic affairs and the vice president for administration and finance* will consult and determine when to close the institution and for how long. The university official who closes the campus will post the information on the campus emergency line at (206)-268-4555 and the Student and Employees Official Announcement folders in FirstClass, noting the time and date when the message was recorded. These messages will be updated every four hours until 6 p.m. each day. That university official also will call the director of marketing and public affairs,** who will notify the media. Internal Notification Procedures in the Case of an EmergencyThe vice president for academic affairs will notify the president and the directors who report to him. The vice president for administration and finance will notify the vice president for institutional advancement and all directors and managers who report to him. The President, the directors and the managers will communicate emergency situations through their program's previously developed and up-to-date telephone trees. Each academic program is also responsible for having a plan in place to notify students that the institution is closed, advising them how to find information on a continuous basis through Antioch's emergency phone line at (206)-268-4555 and FirstClass.
**In the absence of the director of marketing and public affairs, the vice president for institutional advancement will notify the media.
