What can I expect from the program?

The 13-unit, year-long certificate program consists of two required courses of varying length (Basic Mediation and Family Mediation) and a practicum that provides you with supervised practice of your newly learned skills in a variety of settings. You must complete a project that allows you to identify the ways you can use these skills to improve and enhance your career. You choose between two electives for the third course in order to further develop your skills in a specialized area.

What do I have to do to earn the certificate?

You must earn a Pass in Basic Professional Mediation, Family Mediation and either Conflict in the Workplace or Large Group Facilitation, and successfully complete a practicum and a project; the practicum can take as long as a year to complete. You receive a joint certificate from Antioch University Seattle and the Dispute Resolution Center.

What do certificate holders do with their new skills?

Job opportunities for certified mediators are steadily growing as the field becomes more widely recognized. Professionals from many fields use their new abilities within their current workplaces; others opt to go into private practice.

Are there sources of financial assistance available?
Continuing education students are not eligible for the university's financial aid programs in most cases. However, there are private student loan programs offered by banks and other lenders. Click here for more information.
