All sessions integrate concepts of sustainability, systems thinking and social responsibility. You use corporate responsibility challenges faced by your business and, through facilitated group discussions by the instructor and guest experts, you learn how to solve those challenges. You immediately are able to apply ideas and concepts learned in the program to your organization. You also may decide to be part of the more focused consultative learning process included in the curriculum.
The following subjects are covered in an integrated way and not necessarily as separate topics:
Business Effectiveness: Integrating Responsibility and Financial Effectiveness
- How earnings, margins and cash flow are managed for increased responsibility and ROI
- Marketing, selling and product development with ethics and values for higher growth
- A five-element system for business growth: customers, employees, Earth, communities/place and investors
Functioning Effectiveness: Designing Work Systems to Deliver on Promises and Aspirations
- Choosing and designing technological, manufacturing and distribution systems, including effective supplier relationships for materials and processes with an Earth-to-Earth process
- Strategic thinking and planning for integrated responsibility
- Systemic corporate governance – Working with boards, advisers and investors to foster responsibility
Organizing Effectiveness: Improving Critical Thinking and Its Use in Group Interactions, Ensuring Responsibility for Social, Planetary and
Business Success
- Systemic decision making and managing processes
- Organizational design: Designing work systems to align with corporate responsibility
- Leadership of corporate responsibility
- Business and social value creation
- Role of good works and philanthropy
Format of the Program
The program consists of three Seattle campus sessions that take place four months apart. Each session convenes on a Wednesday evening at a hosted dinner and concludes on Friday at 3 p.m. Campus sessions for 2009 are March 11 to 13, June 10 to 12 and Oct. 8 to 10.
In addition, there are six online/audio conference sessions that take place between the campus sessions. Each lasts two hours and participants will be provided with information and training prior to the program. Each online session includes:
- Introduction of new materials and their application to each participant's business
- Guest speakers who offer their organization’s experiences with CSR
- Consultative learning that focuses on ways to advance selected participating organizations' CSR or case studies
The total time commitment for the program is six days over nine months (6.5 Continuing Education Units). Additional optional reading is provided.
