Should I complete the practical experience and prerequisite coursework before I apply?
The most competitive applicants have completed all prerequisites. To be eligible to apply, you must have completed at least one of the academic prerequisites and 75 of your practical experience hours. If you are accepted, you must complete the prerequisite courses and/or the practical experience within the first two quarters in the clinical programs.
Where can I take the prerequisite classes?
Antioch offers these classes on a regular basis. You also may take courses from any accredited institution. They must be taken for credit and you will need to request that a transcript be sent to Antioch.
How long will it take to complete the Mental Health Counseling Program (MHC)?
Students who attend full-time/year-round typically complete their degree requirements in two years. Students who attend part-time usually take approximately 2.5 to three years to complete their degree requirements.
What are the differences in clinical training between the MHC and Child, Couple and Family Therapy (CCFT) programs?
Each program prepares students to work with both the intrapersonal and interpersonal aspects of clinical problems. However, MHC students receive more training to work with the intrapersonal dimension and CCFT students receive more training to work with the interpersonal dimension.
How many hours are required to complete an MHC internship?
An MHC internship consists of a minimum of 600 on-site hours to be completed during four consecutive quarters. At least 300 of the 600 hours must be direct client contact hours.
