Should I complete the practical experience and prerequisite coursework before I apply?
The most competitive applicants have completed all prerequisites. To be eligible to apply, you must have completed at least one of the academic prerequisites and 75 of your practical experience hours. If you are accepted, you must complete the prerequisite courses and/or the practical experience within the first two quarters in the clinical programs.
What are the required prerequisite classes?
Antioch requires these three classes: Abnormal Psychology, Theories of Personality and Lifespan Development.
Where can I take the required prerequisite classes?
Antioch offers these classes on a regular basis. You also may take courses from any accredited institution. They must be taken for credit and you will need to request that a transcript be sent to Antioch.
How long will it take to complete the M.A. in Psychology with Couple and Family Therapy concentration (CFT)?
Students who attend full-time (eight to 12 credits per quarter), year-round typically complete their degree requirements in two years. Students who attend part-time usually take approximately 2.5 to three years to complete the degree requirements.
What are the differences in clinical training between the Mental Health Counseling (MHC) and CFT concentrations?
Each program prepares you to work with both the intrapersonal and interpersonal aspects of clinical problems. However, MHC students receive more training to work with the intrapersonal dimension and CFT students receive more training to work with the interpersonal dimension.
How many hours are required to complete a CFT internship?
A CFT internship consists of a minimum of 600 on-site hours to be completed during four consecutive quarters. At least 300 of the 600 hours must be direct client contact hours, and 150 of those direct client contact hours must be with couples and families.
