Barbara Spraker, teacher and practitioner, bridges the academic world and the world of organizations. Through professional leadership in the business world, she knows first hand the human capacity of individuals to engage fully with their work and with one another and to collaborate in commitment to a larger vision. She has collaborated in major change initiatives, strategic planning and leadership development to help create healthy and productive workplaces. She is an experienced executive coach with extensive expertise in the challenging task of strengthening, or shifting, organizational culture and in creating structures and processes to align department, team and individual contributions to support an organization's mission and vision for achieving desired results.
Teaching master's-level courses for working adults in Germany, Romania and China, as well as the U.S., provides Spraker the opportunity to work with different cultures in developing leadership and facilitating change. Her study and writing focuses on developing creative ways to evoke unique perspectives and insight to create a rich understanding of issues and possibilities - and on developing effective ways of harmonizing differences around shared vision and common goals to support collective action. Spraker is co-founder of the Global Issues and Perspectives speaker series sponsored by the Center for Creative Change

On Interest Area
"Our cultures and our communities throughout the world are exposed to one another and interact in ways never before experienced. Not only do we share access to goods, services and technologies, we also share access to many wisdom traditions. Our collective future depends on understanding, respect and collaboration among the various countries, tribes and cultures of this global system. Each group holds a part of the answer to how we can survive as a global culture, restore the planet and live in peace.
"I am passionate about nurturing a global wisdom culture, about evoking awareness that we are all global citizens. As our consciousness becomes attuned to the fact that we are global citizens, our actions are more likely to contribute in a healthy way to our interdependent world."
On Teaching at Antioch
"Students, faculty and staff at Antioch co-create a dynamic learning community that both challenges and supports all of us in continually developing our potential and pursuing our passion. Our contribution to the world emerges from the creative tension that is developed as individuals and specific disciplines engage in ways that enhance the impact of both the individuals and the collective."
