Get to know the faculty involved with the M.A Education with Library Media below:

Sarah Applegate, North Thurston High Librarian, National Board Certified Teacher Librarian, past president of the Washington Library Media Association (WLMA) and 2011 Fulbright Scholar to Finland. Applegate contributes regularly to the WLMA publication, Medium, and has made multiple presentations on school library issues at state and national library conferences as well as school districts around the state. Recently Applegate has been active in the legislative action around library advocacy and has played a significant role in procuring funding support for school libraries. Marianne Hunter, National Board Certified Librarian and the 2009 Washington State School Librarian of the Year. Hunter is the teacher librarian at Timberline High School in North Thurston SD and past president of the Washington Library Media Association (WLMA). Hunter is a regular contributor to the WLMA publication, Medium, and presents regularly at state and national library conferences.

Christie Kaaland, Ed.D., core faculty, Antioch Seattle School of Education. Kaaland, a 2008 Horace Mann Award winner, is interested in literacy development, children's literature and curriculum integration. In her current advocacy work, Kaaland is a founding member of the national grassroots effort, Act4SL, working with other library advocates to address equitable access to information for all children through inclusion of school libraries in legislation for the national education reform legislation. Her recent advocacy publications include:

Kelly Vancil, core faculty, Antioch Seattle School of Education. Vancil is the newest member of Antioch’s education department and the school library program. He brings cutting-edge expertise in authentic assessments practices and the integration of the arts.

Greg Whiteman is currently the executive director of technology for Kent School District and has served as technology director for Tacoma and Mukilteo School Districts. In 2001-2004 Whiteman served as Superintendent of American International School of Lagos, Nigeria, Africa. Whiteman was awarded Washington Library Media Association School Library Administrator of the Year, 2006, and was recently awarded the Technology Lifetime Achievement Award.
