Drew Larson
Graduate Teacher Preparation with M.A.Ed., 2007
When he recommends Antioch to prospective students, Drew Larson gets to the point. "It is one of the few alternative education programs in the Seattle area," he says.
Larson, a generalist at Highline Big Picture (that's alterna-Ed speak for teacher at a non-traditional high school in the Highline School District), says he achieved a career in his degree field within a month of graduating from Antioch. His graduation ceremony was shortly after he interviewed and just before he was offered the job at Highline.
He says he is still in touch with some Antioch faculty.
"Alison Mandeville is one prof who I still e-mail with on a semi-annual basis. Jerry Saltzman has helped me with education-related questions well after my adolescent development class. Rick Katz is another who I have maintained communication with beyond our class together," says Larson. "The Education staffers (Lila Henderson-Leonard, Rita Hunter, Bob Delisle) were very professional, personable and they made the administrative and advising aspects of the program painless."
His best memory of Antioch?
"Summer quarter, I had a couple of challenging and interesting classes with a great group of cohort members. We often finished class and spilled into a restaurant or bar for a post-class discussion/refueling. This was a particularly fertile time in our studies and the Antioch structure was conducive for us to learn as a group," Larson describes.
