Antioch's Library Media Endorsement program provides a competency-based endorsement that expands your skills and knowledge in library media and the role libraries play in supporting students' critical learning. The endorsement program is offered in collaboration with Mansfield University, a pioneer in the development and delivery of online library media courses for teachers. The program is a hybrid model, consisting of face-to-face and online courses that satisfies the Washington Library Media Endorsement requirements. Upon completion, you are fully prepared to develop and implement a successful library media program in your school.
With a Library Media Endorsement, you become qualified to:
- Establish a school library media program dedicated to providing comprehensive access to information and ideas
- Help K-12 students teachers, families and communities learn through the resources of the library
- Evaluate and select library resources and equipment that result in a collection of internal holdings and external access points that support the educational goals of the school
- Manage library personnel, resources and facilities
- Apply for library media positions within K-12 schools
One student had this to say about the program: "I'm so excited to be on the cutting edge of creating new roles in librarianship and fostering the changing perceptions of teacher librarians in the school education system. This is the most empowering
and energizing post graduate work in which I have ever participated."
— Terry McCarthy, Teacher Librarian, Fawcett Elementary School, Tacoma, WA
