Coursework Abroad
Throughout the program, you will complete at least 24 semester credits (or 36 quarter credits) through studies abroad. The study abroad courses will support the overall concentration of your degree plan. You may enroll in one of AEA's semester long programs in Asia, Africa, South America or Europe and/or directly enroll into one of AEA's partner universities abroad. Examples include the University of Tubingen in Germany, Fundacion Universidad de las Americas, in Puebla, Mexico, Ryukoku University in Kyoto, Japan and the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.
Coursework in Residence
Most students will complete 3 quarters of coursework in residence at AUS. You may elect to enroll in any undergraduate courses offered by AUS. These courses will support your area of concentration. It is assumed that your coursework combined with the internship employment experience will build a strong professional foundation for your future professional career and for continuation of your professional and life-long education.
Internship Program
During the 3 quarters of residency at AUS, with assistance from the program adviser, you will be placed in a part-time internship. The primary objective of the internship is to acquaint you with the environment of work and to develop the professional skills you need to effectively function in the work environment. In addition, whenever possible and desirable, your work experience will provide you with an opportunity to enhance your practical knowledge in the area of your academic concentration.
Online Seminar
Under the guidance of our faculty advisers, you will be continually engaged in a web-enabled community. One aspect of this community is the experiential learning seminar. During the internship part of the program, the seminar focuses on your work and community experiences. At this stage of learning, the main purpose of the seminar will be to reflect on your experiences in the work and community environment and integrate these experiences with the knowledge and skills you gained through classroom based courses and during the study abroad part of the program.
Faculty Advising
A team of faculty, comprised of one faculty member from AUS and one faculty member from AEA, provide continuous and individualized academic advising. This continuous, team approach allows for successful integration of learning during study abroad and while on campus or in internship. During orientation, the advising team will assist you in developing your own academic/curricular plan. As a team, the advisers will stay in close contact with you from the first days of program orientation to completion of the program.
