What does a degree in liberal arts really mean?

How valuable is a liberal arts degree in today's job market?
A liberal arts degree shows an employer you have enhanced your ability to critically think, discuss, discern and problem-solve on a variety of different subjects. These attributes are vitally important in today’s ever-changing world. Within your liberal arts degree, you choose an area of study similar to a major at other universities. So as you gain a breadth of knowledge and skills that display your versatility, you also expand your learning in your academic focus.
How much will completing my B.A. degree cost?
Antioch's costs are competitive with those of other private universities. A credit costs $455 for classes and $111.25 for credit obtained through documenting life experience. Because Antioch offers mostly upper division college course credits, most students opt to take their lower division courses at local community colleges, which substantially increases their savings. In addition, Antioch offers scholarships, payment plans and financial aid for full- and part-time students
How long does it take to complete my undergraduate degree?
Most students come to Antioch having completed some college, and most students graduate within one to two years. You must have 180 total quarter credits to graduate. These may include transcript credits from other colleges and universities, Antioch University credits and prior learning credits earned through Antioch's credit for life experience program.
Is it possible to enter this bachelor's degree completion program without deciding my specialization?
Yes. Some students enter with a clear idea about their focus. Others do not. Your adviser can help you find ways to think about and articulate your field of study. It all depends on your unique educational purposes. Your interests may start out fairly vague and gain in definition over time. You may begin the degree process with a set of general questions about certain topics or disciplines that pique your curiosity. As you move through the degree process, you develop a more focused sense for your academic specialization.
What are the degree requirements for completing my bachelor's degree?
Students satisfy the degree requirements for graduation when they:
- Complete 180 quarter credits, at least 36 of which must be completed at Antioch
- Enroll for at least four quarters at Antioch
- Complete the degree process through the creation of a portfolio of academic progress
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of at least one focus called an area of concentration
- Demonstrate mastery of the five core competencies through presentations, coursework, writing, creative products and reflection on other experiences
- Internship or field-based learning
- Senior synthesis project
