The degree process begins with your core faculty adviser.
You are assigned an adviser within the first two weeks of your first quarter. Assignments are based on your preferences and faculty adviser availability. Some students say it's more important to have an adviser you work well with rather than one whose areas of expertise match your interests.
Your faculty adviser is your advocate for the duration of your degree program (although you can switch advisers along the way for good reasons). It's important to stay in close contact with your faculty adviser, who is your primary support as you develop and move through your degree program.
In close consultation with your adviser, you make a choice about your area of concentration by the end of your first quarter. Your adviser helps you make this decision based on a number of factors, including your clarity about your preferred academic concentration, the field of study and career that interests you most, the transfer credits you bring with you, the amount and nature of other life experience for which you might earn credit and the expected timeline for finishing your degree.
As one B.A. student describes it, advisers at Antioch are unlike those at other universities because they are committed to helping you find your unique voice. Your faculty adviser has your best interests at heart.
