Dual Enrollment Programs

Antioch works with Community Colleges to help students in selected concentrations complete their Associate and B.A. degrees in a cost-effective and student-oriented program. Antioch also offers a "fast-track" option for those wishing to pursue their master's degree as part of the dual enrollment program.

Dual enrollment means you can take courses at the community college while enrolled at Antioch. Generally, this means a more affordable education and an easier transition between the community college and Antioch for both degree planning and credit transfer purposes.

Currently, Antioch has the following dual-enrollment agreements in place:

Students enrolled at the above colleges and programs can apply to Antioch University Seattle at any time.

Curriculum

Students enrolled in the Dual Enrollment Program (DEP) take classes from both their current community college or vocational school and Antioch University Seattle. The curriculum plan is developed by program advisers at both institutions. The goal is to meet the requirements for a B.A. through a combination of credits, based on the requirements of the area of concentration selected.

Antioch also offers an opportunity to "fast-track" into a master's program. By taking courses that satisfy the B.A. degree requirements and also satisfy prerequisites or coursework in the master's program, students seeking a master's degree could save time and money through this option.

FAQ

What is the purpose of the Dual Enrollment Program (DEP)?
The overall purpose of the Antioch University Seattle DEP is to better serve the Greater Seattle community by reducing the cost of a private higher education while providing creative learning opportunities for students.

What is the DEP?
Students in the Dual Enrollment Program enroll concurrently in Antioch University Seattle and their respective community or vocational college. The DEP is designed to work in concert with community and vocational colleges to provide efficient and cost-effective degree program plans designed to help students complete an Associate degree and an Antioch University Seattle B.A. and, potentially, graduate degree.

What colleges and concentrations are eligible?
Currently, Antioch has agreements with Lake Washington Technical College and Seattle Central Community College in teacher preparation. LWTC also has a dual enrollment concentration in Social and Human Services/Psychology.

How does the DEP work?
If you are enrolled at an eligible college and program, you can apply to the DEP at any time. Once accepted, you are a student at both your current school and at Antioch. You have advisors assigned from each school that help you establish a course and program schedule that meets your goals. You take courses from both institutions that lead towards a completion of your associate and B.A. degree.

What is the main benefit of the DEP?
You benefit financially. In addition to the 90 credits required for the AA or AAS degree, you could take an additional 30 or more community or vocational college credits and build those into your B.A. degree program design, reducing the overall cost of your B.A. degree.

Are there other benefits?
You save time in earning a B.A. degree by avoiding transfer issues that often trap students. Students in the DEP avoid these transfer issues by working with both college and university advisors while still attending the community or vocational college. Once enrolled, you have access to resources and activities on both campuses.

What is the advantage of Antioch's program?
You participate in designing your Antioch B.A. degree program and can include credit for life experience. There is an individualized component that allows you to make sure your degree reflects your personal and professional goals.

Is there an advantage for financial aid purposes?
Yes. You can combine credits to achieve full-time status for financial aid and the G.I. bill.

What is the option for graduate school?
Antioch offers master's degrees that relate to the concentrations offered in the DEP. There is an option to "fast-track" into a master's degree in education or psychology if you want continue with a graduate degree after you complete your B.A. degree.

What is the B.A. degree completion rate at Antioch?
Antioch University Seattle has a near 90% B.A. degree completion rate. This high rate of student academic success is due to the personal attention, mentoring and support services provided in a small university environment.
