Antioch University Chancellor Honored by Women of Color EmpoweredAntioch University Chancellor Toni Murdock was honored as a trailblazer by Women of Color Empowered while she was Antioch Seattle President. Murdock was among six women - three Washington Supreme Court justices among them - to be recognized at the May 2004 luncheon. Assunta Ng, publisher of Northwest Asian Weekly and a member of the planning committee for the luncheon, says Murdock is a role model for many women. "We wanted to spotlight Toni so women of color and all women know it's possible to move to the top," Ng says. "She supports women in every sense and recognizes good work in the community." The event featured a panel of female leaders who discussed ways gender and culture make a difference in leadership. Leadership is the organization's theme for 2004, according to Ng. Murdock was one of very few female university presidents, Ng notes. "At the other private universities in Seattle, all the presidents are men."
