Child, Couple and Family Therapy (CCFT) Program
Awarded Candidacy Status
Seattle – Antioch University’s Child, Couple and Family Therapy (CCFT) program recently has been awarded candidacy status by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE). This commission is the nationally recognized professional accrediting agency that accredits master's degree, doctoral degree and post-graduate degree clinical training programs in marriage and family therapy throughout the U.S. and Canada.
To obtain candidacy, CCFT successfully completed a peer review process including a self-study and an onsite review by COAMFTE. Candidacy programs that demonstrate compliance with COAMFTE accreditation standards may apply for full accreditation as early as three years after receiving candidacy. The CCFT program plans to work toward receiving accreditation in the three-year period or no later than July 31, 2008.
Of the hundreds of master’s-level marriage and family training programs in North America, the majority of these programs does not meet – or does not choose to meet – the rigorous professional training standards of COAMFTE. Candidacy status means a clinical training program has provided sufficient evidence of its potential to meet accreditation standards within specified time limits (a minimum of three years and a maximum of five years).
