New Conflict Resolution Certificate Only one in Four-state Area

Seattle — A conflict resolution certificate program starting in Seattle this fall is the first graduate-level certificate program of its kind in Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.

According to the American Management Association, managers spend at least 24 percent of their time resolving conflicts at work. This certificate program teaches people how to resolve conflict through facilitation and mediation and how to be a professional mediator.

The program is sponsored jointly by Antioch University Seattle’s Center for Continuing Education and the Dispute Resolution Center for Snohomish and Island Counties. It equips participants with techniques, strategies and hands-on experience to handle a variety of conflict situations with ease, from minor disagreements to potentially explosive confrontations. Participants apply these skills immediately at their work or in the community.

The 15-unit, yearlong certificate program is pre-approved for continuing education by the American Psychological Association, National Association of Social Workers, Human Resource Association, Puget Sound Educational Service District and Washington State Bar Association. It also is recognized by many other professional organizations.

A free information session about the program will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8 on the Antioch campus at 2326 Sixth Ave in Belltown. Kathy Rice, professional mediator for the Dispute Resolution Center for Snohomish and Island Counties, will provide information. An RSVP is requested at continuinged@antiochseattle.edu or 206-268-4111.
