About Sustainable Seattle
Sustainable Seattle began as a group of volunteers concerned with maintaining their community’s high quality of life in the face of increasing growth in the region. Sustainable Seattle developed a “report card" to assess trends in economic, environmental and social conditions. This report card resulted in a grassroots, multiple-stakeholder process to define the quality of life residents would like to see manifested within the next generation. Since 1991, Sustainable Seattle has issued three reports on its 40 indicators of sustainable community. The United Nations and other organizations worldwide have recognized these efforts.
