| Position Summary |
The writing center is a collaborative enterprise between Antioch University Seattle, The Evergreen State College, Northwest Indian College and the Muckleshoot Tribal College.
The coordinator has five primary responsibilities:
- Organizing, implementing and continuing to develop the writing program at Muckleshoot Tribal College (MTC)
- Leading planning efforts toward expansion of writing support services across partner institutions at MTC from GED through graduate programs
- Teaching writing mini courses for supplementary help across programs
- Organizing tutorials, training peer tutors
- Offering faculty development workshops on writing across the curriculum
The coordinator is expected to develop a writing program that helps reduce writing anxiety and promotes collaborative learning among students; involves faculty across programs in Writing Across the Curriculum; nurtures an atmosphere that serves and attracts Native American students; offers writing instruction that emphasizes the developmental theory of learning and writing; and stimulates and oversees projects to raise the profile and quality of writing in all academic programs at Muckleshoot Tribal College.

| Essential Functions/Accountabilities |
- Cultivates interest and understanding of writing as a cognitive process of understanding among faculty and students; develops workshops on strategies for successful academic writing and other academic support services in each college program at Muckleshoot Tribal College.
- Develops a comprehensive pedagogy for faculty who teach writing intensive courses and offers faculty workshops on writing on a quarterly basis.
- Provides direct student service (tutorials) and arranges for student-to-student academic support services, including one-on-one tutorial services and focused workshops.
- Collaborates with the Co-Director of the AUS Learning and Teaching Cooperative in developing a diagnostic assessment and analysis of student writing as they enter the college programs at MTC.
- Collaborates with AUS faculty and library and technical support staff in developing online academic support services, especially for students who live at a distance from Muckleshoot Tribal College (in other tribal and urban communities).
- Works with partner institutions at Muckleshoot Tribal College to coordinate a seamless sequence of writing diagnostic tests and courses from GED through the master's level.
- Attends MTC staff meetings.
- Assists faculty efforts in the teaching of writing process and strategies across programs; offers quarterly faculty development workshops for faculty across programs.
- Supervises student tutors and/or graduate assistants.

| Qualifications |
- Master's degree in Fine Arts, English, Literature or related field.
- Minimum 2 years experience in Writing Assessments, Diagnostics and Portfolio Assessments at the college level.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Minimum 2 years experience teaching writing classes.
- Experience teaching and/or tutoring Native American students, particularly adults.
- Ability to work collaboratively.

| Relationships |
- Works closely with the Chair, AUS First Peoples' Programs at the Muckleshoot Tribal College (Creative Change and Education programs).
- Collaborates with Co-Director of the Learning and Teaching Cooperative.
- Works with the lead faculty member in each of the partner programs at Muckleshoot Tribal College.

Supervises student tutors and one or more graduate assistants; participates in liaison with adjunct faculty members teaching writing courses. |
